Trenchless technology to lay sewerage lines
A major project to lay sewer lines that covers 29km, starting from Vallakadavu, will adopt trenchless technology using horizontal directional drilling (HDD) method for laying the pipes to avoid traffic disruption. HDD method will do away with the need for tar-cutting, a process that has always incurred huge costs for city corporation for various projects being undertaken by Kerala water authority.
The project was initiated after corporation's development standing committee finalized the decision for laying the sewerage pipes at G1 block which comprises areas including Vallakadavu, Valiyathura, Beemapally and airport. A network of pipes will be laid along 29km for resolving the constant flooding due to malfunctioning manholes. The corporation had sought the assistance of KWA in implementing the scheme.
